In Mtwara, the Student Environmental Management Association (SEMA)of St. Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) reports that they have already planted 560 trees since January 2010 and are aiming to plant and raise 50,000 more indigenous trees around their new campus in Mtwara Town. Their main focus is to create a shady environment that will be conducive to outdoor studying! SEMA Member Musa Mhagama also explains their belief that "Urban trees have more to offer than just a ‘Shade’” Trees also have beauty, are useful as a sink for capturing greenhouse gases, and for creating nesting cavities and perches for birds, butterflies, and mammals such as bush babies, monkeys, and bats. SEMA-SAUT’s motto is to: Save the planet and conserve the environment by planting indigenous trees and protecting Coastal and Marine Environments along the Mtwara Coast. Towards that end they will be carrying out awareness raising in-campus and in neighboring communities about the importance of planting trees. They didn’t write what kind of trees they are planting but if they are native trees it is a sure blessing!

IN MTWARA HAS MANAGED TO PROMOTE THE MANAGEMENT AND TAKING CARE OF THE ENVIRONMENT BY PLANTING DIFFERENT TREES IN AND OUT SIDE THE COMPUS, IN WHICH IT HAS MDAE ITS POPULALITY IN MTWARA AND OUT SIDE MTWARA.
